20xLED MICRO 8-FUNCTION
PHOSPHOR RED LED HALLOWEEN LIGHTS

20 LED Micro 8-Function Phosphor Red LED Halloween Lights, retail $2.84 (walmart.com...
Manufactured by (Unknown) for Wall*Mart (www.wallmart.com)
Last updated 11-02-19

These light sets were found in a Wall*Mart store in the western coast of the United States (the state of California, to be specific) in early-October 2019 for $2.84 each.

The light sets contain 20 (twenty) 3mm phosphor red LEDs, powered by three AA cells inside a surprisingly well-constructed battery pack.

They can be set to all operate continuously or be operated in any of six other modes.

Total set length is advertised to be 7 feet; lighted length is advertised as 6 feet.

 SIZE

Feed the lights first (see directly below), and then you can go decorate that porch.

String these up as you would oridinary (corded) seasonal lights, but handle them carefully because the wires are considerably thinner than the wires are on corded sets. Hang them on porches, mantles, doorways, or other places where you might normally hang light sets.

To turn them on, press & release the rubbery black button on the battery box. To change modes, quickly press & release the button one or more times until the desired mode comes up.

To neutralise them when you are finished using them, press the button and hold it down for approx. 3 seconds; when the lights turn off you may safely release the button.

The light set has a 6-hours on / 18-hours off automatic timer; simply meaning that you can just "set it and forget it" to borrow a phrase from one of Ron Popiel's infomercials that ran near the turn of the century.

To change the batteries, unclip the two clips on the battery door and swing the door open. It is captive, so nothing is going to fall off, go into the rug, and later fall prey to the hungry, hungry vacuum cleaner.

If necessary, remove and dispose of or recycle the 3 used AA cells from the compartment.

Insert three new AA cells in the compartment, orienting each cell so its flat-end (-) negative faces a spring for it in each chamber.

Swing the battery door back closed, and snap the two clasps back into place.

Nothing actually comes off and needs to be set aside briefly, so I don't have to tell you which part that you need to huck into an open grave so that the zombies in that cemetery become all piddled-off at it and subsequently crush with a tombstone, and then rather emphatically tell you not to.

These light sets appear at least *reasonably* durable, in that they should not just fall apart on their own or through just casual handling.

This product is meant to be used as a Halloween light string in a reasonably dry area indoors (or outdoors because they are immune to $#¡77Y weather but I don't believe that they're totally submersible), not as a flashlight meant to be carried around, thrashed, used, and abused; so I won't try to flush them down the loo, bash them against the concrete floor of a patio or a steel rod, let my landlady's dalmation's puppies piddle on them, run over them with a 450lb Quickie Pulse 6 (motorised wheelchair), or perform other indecencies that a regular flashlight might have to go through.

Judging by the construction of the battery/electronics housing, these lights are weatherproof at minimum.
There's a surprisingly beefy rubber gasket around the entire edge of the case and the power/function button is totally inside the case but a circular rubber cap allows you to actuate it without actually exposing it to the elements.

I decided to perform, "The Toliet Test" on them: after sitting at the bottom of the cistern (toilet tank) for just over a minute, I flushed the loo (to lower the water level in the cistern sufficiently that I could fish the lights out), dried the outside of the battery box with some bungwipe, and then opened it, NO WATER was found inside! Not even a tiny droplet!
So yes, they're water- and weather-resistant and washable as well. Essentially this means if they get muddy, if you spill your Diet Pepsi on them, or if a polar bear really does piss on them (see near the bottom of this page), just take the hose to them -- good as new!

This light set appears to use PHOSPHOR RED LEDs -- that tells me at once that blue LEDs are now cheaper to manufacture than red LEDs!

One thing I did note is that steady-on really isn't "steady"; no, the LEDs blink rapidly enough to appear steady-on but if you sweep your eyes across them you'll see them blink. This is because the "steady-on" mode uses PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) to help extend the life of the batteries.

Does this web page look an awful lot like the ones that I made for the 20 LED Micro 8-Function Phosphor Orange Halloween Lights and the 20 LED Micro 8-Function Phosphor Purple Halloween Lights?
Thought that you'd say so.
That because they're electrically and physically identical; differing only in LED color, so I was able to use one of their web pages as a template for this one.

Spectrographic analysis
Spectrographic analysis of the LEDs in this light set; spectrometer's response narrowed to a band between 580nm and 630nm to pinpoint the phosphor's peak emission wavelength, which is 651.470nm.

The raw spectrometer data (tab-delimited that can be loaded into Excel) is at 20hallr.txt

Spectrographic analysis
Spectrographic analysis of the LEDs in this light set; spectrometer's input deliberately overloaded to show the weak blue emission.
This (plus an examination of the LED's die area and the unexpectedly broadband emission) leads me to believe that these LEDs are actually PHOSPHOR RED LEDs!!!
The native emission peaks at 447.650nm.

That sound that you hear is an audio (sound) clip from the movie, "Halloween III: Season of the Witch".
This product is not audio (sound)-sensitive in any manner; the audio may safely be ignored or even muted if it piddles you off.

That music that you hear is the song, "Monster Mash" by Bobby Pickett.
None of these products are audio (sound)-sensitive in any manner; the music may safely be ignored or even muted if it piddles you off.

The video was allowed to loop several times in order to accommodate the length of the song.
